
Dust Removal from a Flame-Cutting Machine – Replacement of the Hose Jet Filter
In 2025, the dust collection filter for the flame-cutting machine at ArcelorMittal Bremen GmbH was completely replaced. The baghouse filter, originally installed in 1989, was severely worn after more than 35 years of operation and no longer met current requirements in terms of condition and operational safety. The filter had already undergone a comprehensive overhaul by Turbofilter as early as 2013. However, due to the advanced state of corrosion and the aging of the main components, a complete replacement was now necessary.
The existing filter was replaced with an identical model, allowing the existing system integration and the proven process control of the flamming machine to be retained. The steel support structure was in technically sound condition and was incorporated into the new plant design. All process-related components of the filter were replaced with new parts.
Scope of Services
The scope of supply and services included planning, design, manufacturing, delivery, dismantling of the old filter, installation, and commissioning of the new flame filter. Another component of the project was ensuring compliance with the contractually agreed-upon emission limits during commissioning and trial operation. According to the negotiation minutes, an emission limit of 5 mg/Nm³ < was established as the warranty value.

The existing steel structure was retained and integrated into the new filtration design.
Design and Special Features
The two main filter components were pre-assembled in advance in an open area within the lifting range of a 400-metric-ton crane. This allowed each component to be placed onto the existing steel structure with a single lift—an approach that significantly reduces installation time at the plant and minimizes disruption to plant operations.
As part of the redesign, the compressed-air tanks were also repositioned to a height that makes them easier to maintain.
Project Goal
The goal of the project was to ensure reliable dust removal from the flame-cutting machine over the long term by replacing the dilapidated existing filter while utilizing the existing steel structure. The new installation increased plant availability, reduced maintenance requirements, and ensured long-term compliance with current emission standards.
Project Outcome
With the successful replacement of the dust collection filter, the flame-cutting machine at the ArcelorMittal Bremen site once again has a modern and high-performance filtration system. Although the existing steel structure was reused, the entire filtration system was brought up to current standards. The result is a plant that is technically as good as new, offering high operational reliability, improved ease of maintenance, and long-term assurance of compliance with the required emission limits.
